Distinguished leaders from both the private and public sectors gathered in Pisa from September 2-4 for three days of discussions and strategic networking to advance global sustainability efforts in alignment with Pope Francis’ Social Magisterium.
The event was attended by key figures such as Roberta Boscolo, Climate and Energy Leader at the World Meteorological Organization, and Professor Emilce Cudá, Secretary General of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
During the event, Professor Cuada introduced the teachings of Pope Francis and discussed the situation in Latin America in view of COP16 in Cali, according to a press release on Friday.
The event was also attended by Chief Sustainability Officers from leading companies like Estee Lauder, Globant, Starbucks, SAP, Vestas, Steve Madden etc. Over 90% of the attendees were CEOs or Managing Directors, creating a dynamic platform for top leaders to exchange ideas and strategies.

“Educating on sustainability is a mission, not a job,” stressed Andrea Gori, founder of Illuminem. He considered Pope Francis a moral and spiritual leader and stressed the importance of bringing together world leaders in Tuscany to foster a world that advocates a personal and human approach to ecology.
“Amid increasing climate uncertainty, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) plays a key role in advancing global climate science, ensuring decisions are based on reliable data and forecasts. Through cooperation, innovation and research, WMO’s work helps countries adapt to the impacts of climate change and mitigate further environmental damage,” said Roberta Boscolo of the World Meteorological Organization.
She said the Vatican, through initiatives such as Pope Francis’ encyclical, I was praised, yeshas been a powerful moral voice for climate action, stressing the need for a united global ethical response to the climate crisis.
Boscolo further emphasized that Pope Francis, like the World Meteorological Organization, advocates for using scientific research to take decisive action. He stressed that the world’s poorest people, who have contributed the least to climate change, are the most affected, and called for a universal approach to addressing these issues.
Boscolo also called for halving emissions over the next 25 years, decarbonizing economies and restoring ecosystems, actions he said are consistent with the WMO’s ongoing efforts to mitigate climate impacts through a better understanding of the atmospheric and climate systems.
Emilce Cudá, Secretary General of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, spoke of the importance of personal transformation.
“Pope Francis has said that structural change is not possible unless young people are able to shift their future to a lifestyle that prioritizes well-being rather than profit,” she said.
With regard to Latin America and COP16 in Cali, she noted that the Pope has called on world leaders to join a “bridging initiative” linking sustainability efforts between continents.
Marvin Rottenberg, a former Google executive and now a director at Terras, explained that he founded Terra Tuscany to address important sustainability challenges. Rottenberg emphasized the value of intimate, face-to-face interactions.
“To effectively reduce global carbon emissions, we need to engage directly with world leaders and foster lasting relationships that can drive positive climate action over the long term,” he said.
The event, which attracted 80 participants, was designed to capitalise on Tuscany’s natural beauty and provide an inspiring forum for discussions on climate action and sustainability.
Unlike traditional conferences, which are often held in hotels, Terra Tuscany aimed to foster personal connections and provide valuable insights on key topics such as biodiversity credits, carbon markets, regulation and compliance, sustainable leadership, and best practices in industries undergoing digital and ecological transformation.
