Novolex, City of Biddeford and Phillips Academy Recognize Excellence in Sustainability
RUTLAND, Vt., Sept. 06, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CWST) (“Casella”), a regional solid waste, recycling and resource management services company, recently recognized three organizations for their leadership in sustainability as part of Casella’s annual Sustainability Leadership Awards.
The Casella Sustainability Leadership Awards recognize partners and customers who best exemplify what can be accomplished together to reduce waste, increase recycling and advance a circular economy. Each year, winners are selected from an impressive pool of nominees including municipalities, businesses, manufacturers, higher education institutions and healthcare organizations.

2024 Casella Sustainability Leadership Award Recipients
Novolex (watch video) develops and manufactures a diverse range of packaging products for multiple industries in the food service, delivery and takeaway, food processing and industrial markets that touch nearly every aspect of daily life. Last year, Casella worked with Novolex to recycle approximately 60,000 tons of industrial waste. These sites have collaborated on employee training initiatives and the installation of on-site processing equipment to increase recycled tonnage. Novolex plans to source 47% of its raw materials from renewable, bio-based or PCR sources in 2023, invest in clear and easy-to-understand product recycling labeling, and report that 84% of its applicable revenue in 2023 will come from products that support the circular economy.
Biddeford, Maine (watch video) is a city committed to recycling education and measures to reduce contamination in the recycling stream. They will work with us to educate community members through local events, curbside tagging, and regular audits. The City’s Recycling Committee meets monthly to review results and discuss new initiatives. From spring 2022 to fall 2023, the City reduced contamination by up to 26%, proving the effectiveness and impact of hard work and efforts in recycling.
Phillips Academy (watch video)Located in Andover, Massachusetts, is a college preparatory school with over 1,100 boarding and day students in grades 9-12 and has been a Casella client and partner for 10 years. The school’s climate action plan includes a goal to achieve 90% waste diversion by 2030. Casella and Phillips Academy are expanding programs on campus to collect compost, e-waste, general waste, metals, and wood. Together, we have successfully implemented a Green Move Out program for several years, redirecting reusable items to Goodwill.
