Aldaglass Packaging Europe Wins Renewable Energy Contract in Bulgaria

Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe), a division of the Ardagh Group, has signed a long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Rezolv Energy.

Under the agreement, AGP’s European glass manufacturing operations will be supplied with renewable electricity from the St. George photovoltaic (PV) project in Bulgaria from April 2026.

Schneider Electric, known for its corporate renewable energy procurement and carbon management expertise, facilitated the negotiation of AGP-Europe’s VPPA.

The VPPA will see AGP-Europe become a corporate investor in Bulgaria’s energy transition and take the lead in supporting the St. George project.

The 229MW solar power project will be one of the largest in Bulgaria, with approximately 400,000 PV panels being installed.

The contract, one of the first of its kind in Bulgaria, aims to supply 110 GWh of renewable electricity per year to AGP-Europe over a 12-year period.

This complements the company’s wind-powered renewable energy supplies secured in Sweden earlier this year.

By combining various renewable energy sources, AGP-Europe is expected to receive a stable power supply throughout the year.

This agreement, together with other PPAs in AGP-Europe’s portfolio, is expected to enable the company to achieve more than 80% of its 2030 renewable electricity target.

Martin Peterson, CEO of AGP-Europe, said: “We are pleased to have concluded this agreement in just six months, which is mainly due to Rezolv’s flexibility, Schneider Electric’s support and technical know-how, as well as our own experience in this sector.”

“The solar project in Bulgaria fits perfectly with our goal of diversifying the renewable energy supply base and supporting emerging energy markets. AGP-Europe will benefit from the supply of renewable electricity and at the same time support Bulgaria’s transition to a low-carbon energy landscape.”

In May this year, AGP-Europe signed a PPA with Germany’s Sunnic Lighthouse and its parent company ENERPARC.
